I'm running this baby on Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 7 and cooling it with Antec Kuhler H2O 620 with Noctua NF-F12 PWM attached to radiator layered with Arctic MX-4 thermal paste. And it is a DEViL CPU. Attached image will help you figure out thermal envelope for this particular setup, I hope.

Why not? That's all I have to say about this chip.I love it, Recieved it in a timely manner, and It works flawlessly.I Currently have an overclock of 4.85Ghz on this processor with a water cooling loop.

An impressive upgrade coming from AMD 8320. The score this chip gets is insane. Perfect for the all around desktop. High single core performance, which works wonders for those games that demand that.It's worth the cost if you want the performance.My only qualm with this chip is the temps bounce around like a jumping bean in an earthquake. Can go from 30c to 60c in a matter of seconds once I turn on prime95. But temps never go above 70 with a Hyper 212 EVO.

System was purchased almost entirely on Amazon. My previous i7-860 build was done the same way. Amazon is a great way to make a computer. I really like the Amazon site tips where they tell you what other parts people are buying along with your processor or motherboard etc.. Very helpful and dead on. I picked away at buying parts for this over the last 6-7 months almost like a layaway program. I popped in the win 10 disc and voila I was up and running in literally minutes, scary fast. On the day I loaded win10, I gave it the first big test with the mobo Intel Graphics. I dialed up Steam and put Tomb Raider on the HDTV to see how the new processor and Gigabyte motherboard ran without a real GPU. WOW, was I shocked. TR ran on normal level where my i7-860 runs TR. i7-860 system won't run TR on ultimate settings at all. Once I got the Gigabyte GTX960, TR ran on ultimate without even breaking a sweat.The entire system ran me about $1500 and the only other software I purchased was Adobe Lightroom and Nero 2015. If you match the pieces of this system you will have a nice ready to run anything PC. Windows 10 so far is impressive, but was very upset to lose my favorite MCE from win7 that ran everything perfectly. Gotta start reinventing the HDTV portion.UPDATE:2016-01-15, The Amazon purchased computer parts above have proved to be ROCK SOLID one year later. I did recently buy the new Tomb Raider, Rise of, which has the ability to run on DirectX 12 or not. Also the game is one of the first to utilize all cores of the i7-4790k processor. I haven't verified this other than what I heard once. The game runs Rise of TR on ULTIMATE settings, but I think the DirectX 12 needs some work. I can't say enough about this processor and computer build. With so many other computer builds or rebuilds, there is tweaking and hunting for patches or fixes(win98,winXP,Vista,win7), and this win10 i7-4790k, it is simply awesome. You turn it on, and you are ready to be computing or dialing up Steam in seconds! My win7, you can go refill your coffee and anything that coffee induces during start up. The $300+ for the processor was a great buy. I really think some of the games and programs may be able to start utilizing some extra lanes of power they give us. The video processing is really fast, and I really like the USB3.0 for double write speeds versus USB2.0. I have switched many of my HDs to 2-3TB WD Passport drives with their smaller sized increase speed, and have dumped several larger hotter running HDs that are more affixed to the computer.If considering a new build, I would definitely stay with the LGA1150 genre. The parts for slightly older hi-tech items is dropping, while the newer parts for the i7-6700's seemed quite bit higher when I made this computer. RAM, video cards, motherboards, are all cheaper with this LGA1150 processor. I haven't compared specs, but the ones I see, are not big enough to warrant a higher payout for parts.

Oh my gosh...I can't even imagine what the 6000 series are like because this thing is insane. I have a gigabyte z97x gaming 7 motherboard and the two work together very well. I use the factory heat sink and the processor doesn't get too hot when overclocking. This paired with a powerful graphics card (i have an AMD Raedon 7870) will make any rig limitless.

Performance is enough for most gaming, but overclocking this piece is a pain. The default frequency is high enough, so it is hard to push the clock higher, but the major issue is the TEMPERATURE. Cores can get EXTREMELY HOT under load if you overclock and add core voltage. I probably have got a bad piece, which requires a voltage of 1.23v at 4.6GHz. This was the stablest voltage for my 4790K, I have tried to reduce the voltage and it caused blue screens even when gaming. However, under AIDA64 stability test the average core temperature is about 95℃, which prevented further overclocking (i tried push the frequency to 4.7GHz at higher voltage, but the core was overheat when doing the stability test, then the frequency dropped. Pleace note that I am using a 240mm cooler master liquid cooler with all the fans running at max speed). The difference of performance between 4.4GHz and 4,7GHz is barely noticeable even at benchmark test. I am now buying a Haswell-E processor, with larger surface area and soldered IHS, its cooling performance are much better than the 4790K, and there will be a huge gain in performance if you overclock it to above 4GHz. Maybe several years later i will have it delidded and build a custom-loop water cooling for it, see if I can push the frequency higher.

I used this processor in my latest build: Gigabyte GA-Z97n-Gaming5 motherboard, 16gb Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400 RAM, Noctua Dual Tower CPU Cooler, ASUS GTX970 mini, and a Corsair 650w PSU in a modded Raijinek Metis case. The CPU/GPU combination push the ASUS PB258Q 25 WQHD 2560x1440 monitor along at highest settings for all the games I have played on it thus far. Heat is also not a problem: idle is in the high 20s and low 30s, and peaks are in the high 60s when gaming. I could not be more pleased.

I built my gaming PC earlier this year and decided to go for the 4790K over the 4690K for the higher clock speed and 4 extra threads. Both of those matter to me as I'm frequently gaming, listening to music, browsing, etc concurrently. Those extra threads and GHZ really do make a difference in a multitasking machine; especially one used for video editing or other content creation.For me, cost was not an issue. It was only $100 more than the 4690k, and for a system I expect to last me the next 6+ years, it amounts to pennies.Paired with a noctua NH-U14S, I was able to hit a 4.7 GHZ overclock on all cores at 1.248 volts. I could probably tweak this a bit, but since it's been rock solid I don't see the need to push it further. Temps have been fine as well, reaching 82* celsius on the hottest core during prime 95 26.6 after 4 hours of running it and barely breaking 50* celsius when gaming or doing anything else.There's really nothing to complain about with this processor.Though it's on its way out with the 6700K now released, if you got a 4790K within the past year there's no need for buyer's remorse. Great processor, but came used.The processor is great value for money. But it would be remiss of me not to mention that the new unit I paid for from Amazon came used.The first warning sign was that the CPU was placed upside down within its packaging. Then, upon opening the retail box (Factory Seal was already broken), I noticed the CPU had thermal paste on it already and the Fan’s thermal paste was disturbed. Clearly the unit was used before.However, Amazon’s customer service was great. They offered to replace the unit.Overall great product, disappointing experience, but good customer service.

Got it up to 5.1GHz pretty stable but the voltage is too high so had to turn her down but the chip is capable!!!!!

This is a nice fast processor. I put it through it's paces today ripping 12 DVD's to the hard drive and encoding those rips, and watching a video while waiting for it to finish, all at the same time. CPU was at 100% for a good 3 hours while I was working and didn't break a sweat.
